Pacific Youth Choir

Based in Portland, Oregon, Pacific Youth Choir is one of the finest youth choral programs in the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 2003 by artistic director Mia Hall Miller, PYC has performed with Oregon's top musical organizations, including the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Oregon Ballet Theater, Whitebird Dance, Portland Chamber Orchestra and Aurora Chorus. PYC is a community of eight choirs of 240 singers age 5 through 19.

The PYC has also enjoyed regional and national recognition. The choir performed at the American Choral Director Association's regional conference in Vancouver, B.C., and was the only choir from Oregon invited to perform at the 50th anniversary national convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Oklahoma City. In 2009, the choir was invited to work with Chanticleer for their first National Youth Choral Festival in San Francisco. That festival led to additional opportunities in 2010 to work with Vance George, former director of San Francisco Symphony Chorus, and Matt Oltman, artistic director of Chanticleer. The choir has appeared numerous times with Pink Martini and recorded on their albums Splendor In The Grass, Joy To The World and 1969, the band's soon-to-be released collaboration with legendary Japanese singer Saori Yuki.

The choir's programming embraces musical education and performance. It programs challenging pieces that force students to work hard and expand, including a number of world premieres.
