Guest Artist Bio
Susannah Mars
Susannah Mars is thrilled to be back with Norman Leyden and the Oregon Symphony on another sentimental journey.
When she first arrived in Portland she was delighted to be a member of the Leyden Singers, subsequently appearing as a soloist with Dr. Leyden on several other occasions, including concerts featuring the music of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. What a joy to sing brilliant music with the Leyden brothers!
Most recently Ms. Mars appeared at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Sunday In The Park With George, as Frieda and Betty. In Portland, among others, she has been seen at Artists Repertory Theatre in Holidazed, as Julia, in Rabbit Hole, as Becca, and in a splendid two year run of Mars On Life; The Holiday Edition. She was also Susan at The 5th Avenue Theatre, in Company. Ms. Mars is the recipient of five Portland Drama Critics awards. Treasured roles include Rose in Gypsy, Meredith in Bat Boy (Portland Center Stage,) and Trina in Falsettos. (Triangle Productions) She opened the Bullitt Cabaret at A Contemporary Theatre, in Seattle, with Mars on Life, which premiered in New York at Don’t Tell Mama's. Her recording, Take Me to The World, on LML Music, was nominated “best CD of 1998” by M.A.C.
Her newest CD, Call It Home, The Music of Richard Gray was released in the spring of this year. Find it, and upcoming events at www.susannahmars.com
Oregon has been her home for twenty years, and she happily shares that home with her dear family; husband Gary, and amazing daughters Kate and Olivia.
Special thanks to Milly and Johnny for their never ending love and support.
