FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYMPHONY ADDS THE RED HOT CUBAN GROUP
TO THE SEASON
(PORTLAND, Ore.) – This three-time-Grammy-nominated group is one of the hottest young bands today. Classically schooled and equally at home in concert halls, jazz clubs and dance venues, Tiempo Libre’s Miami-based members are true heirs to the rich tradition of their native Cuba. A hit in the U.S. and abroad, they’re celebrated for their sophisticated performances, seductive rhythms and joyous mix of high-voltage Latin jazz.
Interestingly, Symphony Music Director Carlos Kalmar is home in Portland for that date, and when he learned of the possibility of adding Tiempo Libre to the season’s slate, the Uruguayan-born maestro said: “I want to make music with them!” And so . . . Carlos Kalmar conducts.
The group last appeared with the Symphony as part of the 2010/11 Pops series, pleasing a near sell-out crowd.
Tickets, ranging in price from $21 to $96 are available at the Oregon Symphony Ticket Office, 923 SW Washington St., in downtown Portland (M-F; 10-6). Tickets may also be purchased by phone at (503) 228-1353 or (800) 228-7343, or online at any time from the orchestra’s web site, OrSymphony.org.
