Beyond the Schnitz
Oregon Symphony Community Engagement Programs

The Oregon Symphony and its musicians are deeply involved in the community in places that stretch far beyond the confines of our concert hall. Here are a few of the things happening in that arena during the month of May.

On May 9th from 12:30-1:30 pm James Carter, guest saxophone soloist for the May 9-11 concert, will visit the Metropolitan Youth Symphony’s jazz and wind ensembles at their weekly Saturday rehearsal and offer tips on technique and performance.

On May 16th from 11 am-12:30 pm Music Director Carlos Kalmar will be a guest conductor with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra as they prepare for their upcoming June 6 concert of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 and Brahms’ Hungarian Dances.
Both of these May events will be at Roseway Heights School at 7334 NE Siskiyou St. The public is welcome to attend. For more information, contact Education & Community Engagement Director Monica Hayes at mhayes@orsymphony.org .
