Maia Hoffman

Viola

Maia Hoffman joined the Oregon Symphony in September 2022 after playing on a one-year contract during the 2021-22 season. Originally from Portland, she grew up playing in the Portland Youth Philharmonic and studied with current and former OSO members Joël Belgique and Brian Quincey. Maia earned her B.M. in May 2020 and completed one year of a Professional Studies degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music on a full scholarship, studying with Robert Vernon and Stanley Konopka. During her last year at CIM, Maia also participated in the Artist-in-Residence program at Judson Manor.

While at CIM, Maia was Assistant Principal Viola of the Akron Symphony and a member of the Canton Symphony. Passionate about historical performance, Maia also studied baroque viola with Julie Andrijeski at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and has performed with Apollo’s Fire: The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra and the Oregon Bach Festival Period Orchestra.

In her spare time, Maia enjoys camping, skiing, and traveling, as well as fostering kittens for local animal rescues.
