An evening of Music & Conversation
April 4, 2025
Open Music with Gabriel Kahane
Overview
In this wide-ranging survey of American song, Oregon Symphony Creative Chair, Gabriel Kahane, interprets the works of the songwriters who have shaped him as an artist and thinker. Among these are 20th-century luminaries like Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Connie Converse, and Charles Ives, as well as contemporary voices including SZA, Mitski, and local darling Haley Heynderickx. In the second half of the program, Gabriel will introduce a set of brand-new original songs, written over the past several months. This concert, only the second solo performance Kahane has offered in Portland since claiming Oregon as home five years ago, is a one-off opportunity that is surely not to be missed.
