We’re doubling down on our commitment to art by Portland for Portland with the continuation of our Sounds Like Portland series. This season, we welcome voices from an expanded roster of local legends to the Oregon Symphony stage.

Piazzolla & Edna Vazquez
Piazzolla’s nuevo tango style meets mariachi flair in this exploration of Latin American folk traditions, featuring Héctor Del Curto on bandoneón and the rich vocals of Portland’s own Edna Vazquez.
Kahane, Still & Copland
Explore the American spirit with Still’s Fourth Symphony, storytelling from Portland resident Gabriel Kahane, and the fusion of music and literature in Copland’s eloquent portrait of Abraham Lincoln.
The Mountain That Loved a Bird
When a mountain meets a visiting bird named Joy, its life changes forever. Witness this heartwarming story of friendship and love as the Oregon Symphony performs Caroline Shaw’s musical interpretation of the book live with narration!
John Craigie with the Oregon Symphony
Portland’s folk troubadour John Craigie joins the Oregon Symphony for a night of Americana with an orchestral kick, teeming with the sincerity and lyricism that have made Craigie’s music resonate with audiences across the country.
Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony
Mendelssohn’s effervescent “Italian” Symphony is joined by Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, featuring soloists from Chamber Music Northwest. Portlander Kenji Bunch’s 2022 fanfare, inspired by Oregon’s state motto, celebrates independence and individual strength.
A Spotlight on the Music of Rose City
Edna Vazquez is bringing her unique musical heritage to the orchestra in the first Pops concert of the season. Folk singer John Craigie will make his symphonic debut with us in December. Chamber Music Northwest’s Artistic Directors, Gloria Chien and Soovin Kim, are starring in a performance that also includes a Kenji Bunch composition inspired by Oregon’s state motto.
Sounds Like Portland is also expanding into our family series with Caroline Shaw’s musical interpretation of a beloved children’s book. Plus, we’re featuring the world premiere of a work that we co-commissioned from composer Gabriel Kahane. Check back throughout the season as we add to our lineup, you won’t want to miss it!
