First-timers guide to the Symphony

Do I need to know anything about classical music to come to an Oregon Symphony concert?

No! Our shows are designed for everyone, not just classical music enthusiasts. If you’re interested in learning more about the music on the stage, our program books have descriptions of every piece with historical and musical details. We also include program information on the webpage for each of our classical series concerts.

Where are Oregon Symphony concerts held?

The majority of our concerts are at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. We also offer a Salem Subscription Series which takes place at Smith Auditorium at Willamette University. Occasionally we feature concerts at other venues throughout the Portland metro area, Corvallis, and Newberg.

What should I wear to the Symphony?

There is no dress code for Oregon Symphony performances! Our patrons range from those dressed to the nines to those in a simple T-shirt and jeans. We just want you to feel comfortable and enjoy the performance.

Where can I park?

Parking options near the hall include street parking, parking lots, and garages. Our recommended parking garage is the Fox Tower Parking Garage, with an entrance on SW Taylor between Broadway and Park. Make sure you leave plenty of time to find parking, as the spots nearest to the hall often fill quickly. Street parking is metered until 7 pm daily.
